Just when you think you’ve surrendered everything that makes you comfortable, you quickly realize there’s more.

Communication is an art and something I thoroughly enjoy, possible even pride myself in. Deep conversations, public speaking, all of it I thrive off of. *Fun fact: I did start out as a communications major in college.* So far, language barriers have come up in each country but never like in Ukraine. It’s a completely different alphabet and Russian and Ukrainian are often intermixed. (& this girl obviously doesn’t speak either).

As I stood in the middle of downtown, I realized there wasn’t one sign I understood. It was quite overwhelming. I felt so small. Simple tasks like ordering coffee or paying for groceries became taxing and anxiety-filled scenarios. This drew the importance of communication to a new level for me.

During my time in Ukraine, we had the honor to partner with a local orphanage. I was a little hesitant at first because none of the kids spoke English, so I wondered how we were going to communicate…

To my surprise, I quickly realized that words weren’t all too needed with little ones. Laughter, smirks, giggles, and smiles are all you really needed, to know what we were trying to communicate with one another. I guess it’s really true what they say about 70-93% of all communication being body language.

“Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.” 1 John 3:18

It was so refreshing to spend time with the kids, love them, and let them love on us. Their hearts were pure and full of joy despite the hardships a lot of them have faced.

They reflected Jesus in a beautiful shade; Loving, receptive, pure, and much more. In fact, the first day we were there, ALL of the kids came running towards us ready to hug, love, and play. And I can’t help but think of our Father doing the same with us. He’s always ready, waiting with open arms, wanting to love you fully, embrace you, and walk this life alongside you.

Although it’s nice to be able to have those deep conversations with people, an act of love and kindness really does go a long way. The God we serve isn’t limited by anything, so we press on the journey, country to country, loving everyone and anyone in whichever way needed.

Thank you so much for reading!! In order to protect the children I am unable to post pictures but I encourage you to pray for the their little hearts to be captivated by their Heavenly Father and for a bright, prosperous future!:)

The Lord has been so faithful and it’s been an honor to partner with Him on this journey. I am currently still fundraising to stay on the mission-field until the summer of 2022. Please consider donating as we partner together to bring even MORE people into the Kingdom!

Until next time amigos,
